The 21st and 22nd March we were at ‘The Big One’ in Farnborough.
Shows are always a great place for us to meet all of our customers and talk about our products and your experiences with them!
At ‘The Big One’ we met Andy Gouriet who spoke to us about his success with our Meat Hooks when catching Conger.
Every September Andy fishes in the Looe Sea Fishing Festival run by the Shark Club of Great Britain. Every year there are 12 titles up for grabs to be won by entrants; both Boats and individual anglers. Over the last 2 years Andy has won 9 of the titles, 6 titles in 2013 and 3 in 2014. Both years Andy won ‘Largest Aggregate Weight of Conger’ and also 'largest conger of the week' for 2 years running. The year before last Andy landed a 55Ib reef Conger and last year it was a 67Ib Conger as pictured.
Andy always operates a strict ‘Catch and Release’ policy so all of the Conger were returned once photographed.
Speaking to Andy we obviously wanted to hear more about his success and experience with our Meat Hooks and he was more than happy to tell us!
‘The hook and hold properties on these hooks are so good that I’ve made it a key part of my Conger rig that I have developed. When you hit the fish you know it’s going to be hooked and it’s always a ‘given’ that the fish will make it to the boat deck.
I once caught 2 Congers in the 20Ibs range on the same trace at the same time – something that the skipper has never ever seen before! Last year, over the week I caught in excess of 35 Congers in around 160ft of water!’
